Email is important!

I don't know about the rest of you, but email is important to me. It's how I communicate with many people. It's just as imprtant as me leaving an answering machine message for someone, or sending a text message, or writing a letter (as rare as that is these days). I expect a response. And I don't understand why many people just do not respond.

Yes, I understand the impersonality of electronic forms of communication. But honestly, it is easiest for me. I have the most free time during the day, when most people are at their places of employment. The evening, when I'm busy making dinner, cleaning up, helping with homework, attending activities for myself and my kids, bathing kids, reading to the kids, tucking them in, bathing myself, it's just not a good time for me to make a phone call and chat.

In today's world, I just don't understand why some people do not take email as an important communication tool and respond when they've been sent a message. What makes it even worse is that a majority of people now have Smartphones and their email is sent directly to them.

  1. OMG I so get you! People say it is informal but tending to the little daily details is so much quicker and simpler via email, text, and even chat. Although, chat can be kind of as demanding as an actual phone call. It is hard to multi-task with a phone stuck to my ear.

With emails and texting I can carry on a 'conversation' and tackle appointments, to dos, and lunch dates or Gal's night - even the kids party save-the-dates - while cooking dinner and helping the kids with homework.

During the day I can handle this stuff with a sprint across the keyboard while watching my favorite show and folding laundry and unloading the dishwasher, etc.

Some people will say, "Oh, I only check my email like once a week." WHAAAAAAAT?? It is unfathomable to me. Truly. :-) So, I get you. (Oh, and I'd get back to you within minutes; only if I'm driving down the road or at a school event, church, etc might it take an hour or two. LOL!

  2. I agree - one of my biggest pet peeves is when people don't answer emails. It's very frustrating, especially when you know darn well that they received it. Grrrr.
