Movie Monday!!

Today is my hubby's 36th birthday!!! And in honor of him, I was gonna feature his favorite movie.....but I don't know if I could say anything nice about it.....

We watched this movie on our first "date".... we had gone to the mall and then back to his house to hang out. It's just not my thing.

So I'm trying to think of some other movie that we love together or something significant. All that comes to mind is the very first movie we went to the theater to see together. Now....this movie is definitely not on my list of all time favs, but I do love it!! Not sure if it's necessarily because of the content of the movie or just the nostalgia of it being our first movie date together!!

Clueless came out in July of 1995, just after I had graduated from high school and merely weeks after starting to date hubby. I totally had the little pleated skirt with the thigh high stockings!! The midriff-baring sweaters and shirts!!! The fashion trends from this era were so fun!!! I so wanted everything Cher wore in the movie!!!

This movie is a feel good kind of movie...the spoiled rich girl decides to use her popularity and money for the better good. You can't help but love Cher, even in the beginning when clothes and shopping are her life. She is just a lovable character from minute one! And I think that's what any author or writer wants...they want their characters to be loved, flaws and all, from the very beginning.

I loved Alicia Silverstone in many movies (Ever see Blast From the Past?? I may do a Movie Monday on that one!!) and I think Clueless was really her big break...after this, everyone knew who she was. The movie started some other pretty big careers too: Brittany Murphy (May she rest in peace. I so miss her!!), Paul Rudd (Yeah..think back..he's the kinda cute yet dorky older step brother who Cher falls in love with!), Stacey Dash, and Donald Faison.

So...were you a Clueless fan?? And more importantly, did you wear any Clueless inspired clothing??? :)

Movie Monday!!!

Today's post is a musical!!!!

I am a huge lover of music in movies. I LOVE a great soundtrack!! But what made this movie even better was the fact that the actors also sang every song and the songs were part of the movie, not just background noise!!

I remember when Chicago came out...at the time, I honestly did not know anything about it. I had heard of it, kinda knew the era it was...but all I knew was that it was a Broadway show. But then one day I saw the video on VH1 for All That Jazz. Holy Crap!! I was COMPLETELY hooked and just had to see this movie.

Just amazing!! The songs and music...the theatrical performance numbers!! I loved the way the scenes flipped between real life (like inside the prison) to the fabulous stage performance that was going on inside their heads. The music in this movie is phenomenal....it's one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time, and All That Jazz is still my favorite on the album.

And the costumes. Wow!! I so want to have some reason to wear something like one of them some day!!! I came kinda close in my dance class a while back...a cute little costume with a fringe skirt!

Catherine Zeta Jones was unbelievable and though I'm not a huge Renee Zellweger fan, she was good. And Queen Latifah...LOVE her! Who knew Richard Gere could sing?

So, what are your thoughts on Chicago???

Movie Monday

Today's movie is one that makes me cry every single time. Not just eyes glazed over...not a tear or too...I mean waterfalls from my eyes.

I saw The Notebook at the theater...hadn't even heard of Nicholas Sparks at the time. A friend had won tickets to a special screening of the movie before it was released in theaters...she could bring like 15 people and I was one of the lucky ones. Had no clue what the movie was even about, but free is good! I sat in the theater with my hubby and a bunch of other friends, mostly couples. I don't think there was a dry eye out of any of us.

Anyone's who's married, or in a serious relationship, has to identify with Noah and Ally. The great love between two people and to have something as awful as dementia happen to you...I can't even imagine. And hope I never will.

The unavoidable love between two people who weren't supposed to fall in love....who can resist a story of people who come from opposite sides of town? The summer fling that turns into true love.....one that time can't destroy.

And that hot kissing scene in the rain......Oh. My. God. Makes ya not wanna dodge the rain anymore.....

So, what do you think??? Is The Notebook on your list of favs???

Movie Monday

It's Movie Monday, week 2!!! Wondering what movie should be next....the first was so easy...no brainer. But the next one...a bit tougher. But I'll go with a classic.

This story is one I read first, in college. It wasn't a requirement for a lit class or anything. It was a challenge to read it (all 1048 pages of it) and I just wanted to prove to myself that I could read a book that long. But I didn't expect to fall completely in love with it.

Aside from a few slow chapters during the war, I devoured the book, reading it in my dorm room bed every night (I was a senior and I didn't have too much studying that semester). When I was home on break after finishing it, I rented the movie. And I adored seeing this grand epic come to life before my eyes. This was the early days of Hollywood...no computer generated special effects, no fancy cameras. Plain, simple movie making and I was in awe. Vivien Leigh is breathtaking in every scene and who can resist Clark Gable as Rhett Butler...the original bad boy.

Now, I do admit, I was a bit disappointed...there was so much that was left out. But geez....the movie was over 3 hours already...had to cut some stuff out of a 1000+ novel!!

Trying to pick a favorite scene and I'm not sure I can. I do love the beginning...the barbecue at Twelve oaks...before the war starts. And the icon scene where Rhett lifts Scarlett and carries her up the stairs!

And who can't identify with Scarlett O'Hara, lusting after a man she cannot have???

A few years ago we took a trip to visit friends in North Carolina and decided to take a side trip to Atlanta before coming home. I had heard of a Bed and Breakfast called Inn Scarlett's Footsteps and I checked into it. They had a room available!! Being a northerner my entire life, I had never experienced anything like this before...I'd only seen places like this on tv. And we were actually going to sleep there!!!! We got the Rhett Butler room. We also visited the Margaret Michell house while in Atlanta, the place she lived while she write Gone with the Wind.

Movie Monday

Add Image

It's the morning after the Oscars...what a great day to start my new weekly feature!!!

I had this idea.....I love love love movies. I love books too...but there's just something about seeing a story come to life on the screen. They can leave such an imprint on our hearts and minds. The best movies make me cry. If I cry, it was good.

I thought maybe I'd do a weekly feature, at least for a little while, and focus on my favorite movies of all time! See what my blogging friends think of my picks!

For my first ever Movie Monday, I'm gonna go with my favorite--of all time. I'd first seen this movie when was about 11 or 12. It came out in 1987, when I was 10, but we never went to the theater back then. Had to wait til it was released on video. I can't even remember my first time seeing it, but it had hooked me fast.

Even at that young age, I identified with Baby, though it wouldn't be until years later that I was really dealing with the emotions she dealt with. God, I can so remember a time in my life when the "it" guy was with me and the song "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" played in the back of me head. I was Baby...shy and unsure, and somehow had caught the attention of the hottest guy around.

But when I was younger, me and my friends used to put the movie on and dance around the living room. We had the soundtracks and listened to them non-stop. I even remember a camping trip where we about wet ourselves when we found an tree trunk laid over a little stream. It was tiny compared to the movie version, but still. We put "Hey Baby" on the little boom box and danced on that log all afternoon.

My bedroom walls had two huge posters- the movie poster shown above, and a black and white shot of Patrick Swayze, laying on his side, during the "Love is Strange" scene. "Come 'ere, Loverboy!"

I cried when Patrick died. He was probably my first huge celebrity crush. And he will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Dirty Dancing is played on TV so much, but you know what...every time....I am a total deer caught in the headlights. I can't turn away. I can't flip the channel.

I still listen to the soundtracks. I know every song by heart.

My favorite scene in the whole movie.......it's so full of sexiness and passion, hunger and desire. My heart completely flutters every time I see it.
