Well, I had to do it. I have been debating for a while on adding the adult content warning to my blog. Just to cover my butt. I rarely post anything explicit...but I guess my cover for A Bitch Named Karma is kinda racy...and well...the title is too.
But now I have plans to post something pretty sexy, so that made my decision definite. (Check back on Friday!!)
Do you have an warning on your blog?? Why? Is it a pain to have it on my blog?? Does it deter readers from continuing?

Here's a "con"--if you do the Adult Content warning, many people will not be able to read your blog while at work, because of network filters. This means during their lunch, before or after work, etc.
ReplyDeleteAnd a few stuffed shirts won't even try to read your blog if they hit that warning, thinking it might be something "worse". Just sayin'.
I guess because I know you and your blog, I'm not deterred. But even without the warning, I never open your blog when my kids are in the room. It doesn't stop me from coming back later, of course!
ReplyDelete*Sigh* That's what i was afraid of Piper. I don;t want it to be a hassle for people to visit my blog. But there are times (like Friday) when I need/want to post something a little risque. I guess I'm just afraid of someone complaining to Blogger and them shutting me down. I've built such a following here and I don't want to lose it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Heidi!! That means so much!!!
I normally only post a content warning on specific posts. So if I have a particularly steamy chapter going up, or a post that will be more risque than normal, I put at the very top of the post centered in bright orange letters, something like:
ReplyDelete***If you are easily offended by graphic material, or are under 18 years old, do not read further.***
That way those who prefer to avoid such things can click away without reading any more, and the rest of my readers (some of whom actually get excited when they see that warning on a post LOL), can read on and enjoy.
I don't think I'd ever put a content click screen on my entire blog. That would keep too many people out, IMO.
I usually don't read blogs w/ adult content warnings, though I appreciate adult content warnings. However, I've never seen anything inappropriate on your blog, so when I saw Warning in my side bar, I clicked it to see what it was about.
ReplyDelete...And I think what the last person said is a good idea. That way ppl who might not read graphic material can avoid those posts but still enjoy other posts.
Thanks for sharing Beth. Last thing I want to do is scare anyone away..so I have removed the warning and I will just post a warning at the beginning of a risque post. Thanks so much for stopping by!
ReplyDeletenow you have me wondering what you are going to do to make that warning apply, very tittalating for sure. hmmmm, need to come and see what you are going to write next, but I also thought it was funny to just throw that warning out there! bery funny! Great sense of humor for sure! =o) now im off to follow you! =0)
ReplyDeleteI've never had to post a content warning. One time I visited a new blog (someone who had visited and commented on mine) and they had a content warning. I didn't visit the blog (the warning came up in their blogger profile). But I emailed the person to apologize for not visiting their blog (since I think it's good manners to do that when someone visits yours, ya know?) and let them know why I couldn't visit their site.
ReplyDeleteThe woman was very kind and gracious but explained what the warning was for--the very, VERY occasional post, etc. So I felt okay about visiting her site after that and it was just fine!
Oops! I meant to also say, Don't forget to post your flash fiction today!
