Ever feel like this???

Really excited about something but you just keep it to yourself because you're sick and tired of hearing the thoughts that everyone else feels compelled to express about said topic.

This is happening to me right now.

We live within a budget. I do not work a regular job. We are not swimming in money. But come tax return time, we have some money and we like to splurge on ourselves. No one has issues with that fact....but everyone has a comment for what we actually do with our money.

We like to take trips and that time together is very precious to us. It's an escape from bills, work, school, responsibilities...everything. We treasure that time as a family and the rare chance that hubby and I can get away on our own.

So that's what we're doing. Hubby and I booked an extra long weekend away but we dread telling family and friends where we're going. I know we'll get the "AGAIN?" and "You were just there!" and "Don't you get sick of that place?"

At this point in our lives, no, we are not sick of it. It's what we like. I'm not siting here telling someone they can't eat steak more than once a week if that's what they like. Or what about people who buy season tickets to sporting events...I'm not asking them: "Aren't you sick of going to football games?" I would never do that. If people find joy and happiness from something...more power to them. Life is about being happy and finding it wherever you can.

Why can't people just be happy for others who are able to do the things they enjoy???

  1. You go on that trip and have a very good time. If that's what makes you happy, then so be it. Who are any of us to tell you what to do? It's your money, you can do whatever you want with it.

Believe me, if I could go to the beach every weekend I would and I wouldn't care who said what to me. It's what I love more than anything.

  2. Exactly!! I'm better than I used to be about what others think of me....it's a process. I'm sure there will be a time when I don't give one care what others think...but for now...it still bothers me when people judge me.

  3. I think I know where you are going. :)

Everyone has their special things/places/activities. Whatever makes you happy. Life is short, and there is a lot of sadness-so whatever can be a happy moment in there, regardless of where or what, is a good thing.

We wouldn't all want to go there as much as you do/have (like me!) but you wouldn't want to do what I love either. That's what makes us all who we are!

And money.....you can't take it with you! :) Enjoy!

  4. You're right. People may judge but in the end it's yours to spend and often they don't take into account their own extravagances. :)

  5. I'm sure you do know Tracey! LOL! I can't help it!! Luckily my hubby shares my enthusiasm! And you're absolutely right...some of my friends spend a boat-load of money every winter for ski passes for their family...that is not my thing but I'm not gonna come down on them for going skiing several times a week. I like what I like, others like what they like...I just don't understand why some of the others insist on making their negative comments to me!

Bethany...you've got a great point...people do judge but forget about their own stuff! I can't tell you how many of hubby's family members do Vegas or local casino trips once or twice and year and find nothing wrong with that.

  6. LOL. I think that's why people don't share baby names until after the baby is born. It's much harder to ask for change once something has already been established. Have a great trip!

  8. Don't tell. :0) It will make that long weekend even more exciting and fun. Be like, secret agents. LOL :)

  9. I hear you! My hubby and I are pretty big on budgets, but vacations are not something we are willing to sacrifice - for the two of us, or for the whole family. We do without a lot of other things so that we can provide rare vacation experiences for the kids or have a quick getaway for two. It's good for the family, and it's good for the marriage.

You go, girl! Enjoy and don't worry about what anyone thinks. :-)

  10. Hey there! I haven't heard any "negative" comments about you going to Disney. I know I never have said any! I think at first we were all just curious as to why you would keep doing the same thing instead of visiting new places. But like you said, it's what you like to do. That's your choice. Just like going skiing every winter is ours. I know you would never "come down" on us for that...as we've never "come down" on your for your choices. We all have what we like to spend our $ on. We just need to start being honest and instead of saying we don't have the $, say we don't want to spend our $ on that. Because let's face it, we all seem to find the $ when it's something we really want to do!:)

  11. Have fun on your trip! Everyone has their things that they could do over and over and never get tired of. My hubby and I go to about 20-30 rock concerts a year. They're expensive and many times we're seeing bands we've seen before, but that's where we choose to spend our "fun" budget. So I don't care if someone says, you're going to see so and so again? lol Yep. Indeed we are.

Shannon, that's exactly how we feel too!
