The more and more I talk with other writers, the more and more they seem to agree that blogging is a waste of time. No one reads them anymore. And it takes so much time to write them. That time would be better spent on other networking outlets or just plain old writing.
I occasionally read blogs. But I don't seek them out anymore. If I see an interesting link on Twitter or Facebook, I will click over. But gone are the days when I would sit here and scroll my blogroll and click on all my friend's and colleagues' blogs, read, comment, share, etc...
I remember when blogging was really really fun and everyone was doing it. I made so many friends that way. All the blog hops and events! So fun! I met so many authors and writers, learned soooooo much about the industry. It was an essential tool years ago.
It's sad that things have changed so much, but it's the way of the world. But for me, I feel like I have to keep blogging. This blog serves as my website too. For now. So I don't want people to visit it and see a post from a year ago. I want to keep people updated on me.
So my new goal is to post every Monday. About writing, life, food, any darn thing I want!
Enjoy!

I hate neglected blogs :(
I hate clicking someone's blog and seeing the last post was months, or even years ago. And here I am...doing just that :(
It's been a hell of a summer. That's all I can say. It's been one thing after another. Two kids keep me busy. I can't imagine what bigger families are like. Yikes! Do mom and dad ever get a spare moment to breathe? LOL!
Lots of exciting writing-related things going on too. I still can't reveal much yet, but let's just say, it's what I've been working the last 5+ years for. I still can't believe it's actually happening. Details to come soon. I promise!!!

This cracked me up!!!
So I was checking stats for my blog. They always amuse me. I love to see how many people clicked on my blog, how they got here, the countries they live in. I'm really big in the US and Russia this week. I find it really cool that people on the other side of the world are reading my words. The awesomeness of the internet :)
And one never ending source of amusement is the search words. Here is one of today's funny ones:
crista agulara in her panties
To my knowledge, I have never written a post about Christina Aguilara, and definitely not one about her in her undies.
And another that stuck out was this one:
how to pronounce haefner
And that made me think. Yeah, I know my last name is not the easiest to pronounce. It's not a cool last name. I debated on using a pen name for my writing. But in the end, I wanted to see MY name on the covers of my books, not some made up name. I figured as long as people could spell it, I was good.
But for those who would like to know how to pronounce it, it's hayf-ner. Hope that helps :)

The Girly Book Blog Hop!
Today I'm part of a fun blog hop all about secondary characters!!
What gal is complete without her super fab BFF?????
Secondary characters give our main characters depth. I think you can tell a lot about people by who they keep closest to them. In my writing, my secondary characters are usually quirky and wild. They're usually a person my main character wishes they could be more like...and learns a lot from them.
Below is a scene from my newest work in progress...just wrote this scene! It's the first glimpse that readers get of the dynamic between Deeni and her BFF Lydia. Basically, Deeni has just been dumped by her longline boyfriend and concocted a wacky plan to save face at her sister's wedding. Enjoy!
(PS...except has a bit of strong language...18 and over only please!)
Deeni took a deep breath. She was about to share this crazy plan with someone who was not physically involved in it. Lydia wouldn’t sugarcoat. She’d tell her exactly how nutty they were to even attempt it.
“It’s not how it looks.”
“You looked pretty damn cozy, if you ask me. Who is this guy? Where did he come from? And were you cheating on Eddie?”
“Hold on. I’ll answer all that. We just met this morning.”
“Wow. You jump back in the saddle fast. And by the way, I’m kinda pissed I had to hear about the breakup from my mother, of all people.
“I know. There really wasn’t any time. It all happened late last night, and then I had to get to work. The wedding takes precedence over any other thing in my life right now.”
“Fuck the wedding.”
“I’d love to, believe me. But anyway, we met this morning and he just got dumped too. He needs someone to pose as his fiancĂ© and I need someone to pretend to be my new boyfriend cause I kinda told my mother I had been cheating on Eddie for months.”
“And why would you do that?”
“Because she was gonna sit Uncle Fred in Eddie’s empty seat at our table for the reception, and I don’t know, it seemed like a good idea at the time. She had that pitying look in her eye and I couldn’t stand it. I think I’d rather be a cheater than a pathetic dumpee.”
“Okay. I think I get it.” Lydia pulled up in front of Deeni’s place. “But that doesn’t explain the almost kiss I witnessed at Allegretto.”
I can’t explain it either. “Uh, I guess when you take two recently dumped people and give them two bottles of wine, they get a little out of control.”
She shook her head. “Just be careful. You don’t know this guy.”
“I will. Thanks for the concern, Mama Bear.”
“You don’t want to end up like me."
“What are you talking about? You’re blissfully happy.”
Lydia’s fling the summer between junior and senior year turned into a baby girl that spring. Luckily, she was good at picking someone to fling with. She and Chuck fell in love, adding two more kiddos to the crew.
“Yeah, I am. But it’s not fun to have a baby with someone you barely know. It wasn’t exactly easy getting to where we are now.”
Deeni remembered. She’d listened to Lydia cry numerous nights back then.
“So how are you, really? It had to suck being dumped like that.”
“It did. It does. I’m not sure how I feel. One minute I’m devastated and feel completely blindsided, the next, it’s like I dodged a bullet. Can you imagine if I’d married him and had kids and then he decided to cheat on me?”
“That woulda sucked. But I guess now that it’s happened, I’m not really all that surprised. Do you wonder if he’s cheated on you other times than this?”
“I never suspected until now.” She turned toward Lydia. “Do you think it’s cause I’m bad in bed? A girl like Gina G probably does all kinds of freaky stuff.”
“First of all, I can’t say for sure having never had sex with you, but you are not bad in bed. And secondly, that tramp is a freak. If he’s attracted to a girl who flashes her lady parts all over Miami and will blow him anytime, anywhere, then you don’t want him anyway.”
“You’re right.”
“And now you can find a better man. Who knows? Maybe something will happen with the tasty one you had for dinner."
“Uh, no. He’s just been dumped too. Nothing good can come of me thinking I can start a relationship with Carter. If anything, he’d be a fun fling.”
“And there’s nothing wrong with that. Best way to get over a guy is hot sex with an even hotter guy.”
Deeni giggled and shook her head. “Thanks for the love. And the ride. I appreciate it.” She leaned across and hugged Lydia. “I’ll talk to you later.”
So there it is! I love a great set of BFFs! And in honor of great BFFs, I've giving one lucky winner a digital copy of my book, Soap Dreams, which also stars a feisty BFF sidekick!

Reading but no commenting?
I'm told for every 10 blog readers, there is only 1 comment. I'm told people read, but no one comments anymore.
When I started blogging, it was a way for me to meet other writers, commiserate, start the "platform" I was told I needed to start. It was fun and I enjoyed it. Back then I had 100-150 followers and on any random day, I'd get a slew of comments. I felt the love!!
But now things are different. I still post blogs, though less frequently. But even with double the followers I used to have, I'm lucky to get 2-3 comments. I check my stats on Bloggers and it shows a decent amount of blog hits. So I *think* people are reading. But I guess I'm just not seeing the proof...in the form of feedback....interaction....the whole reason I got into blogging to begin with.
But I do get that interaction on Twitter now. So maybe things have just shifted??
I try to keep my blog fresh and updated, since it is doubling as my website for the time being. Blogger is easy to use and with the pages function, it just made sense to me. I can't afford to hire someone to make a fancy website right now. And I wouldn't know how to update it anyway.
So...blog readers, if you're reading this, why do you read and not comment? I don't comment on every blog I read...usually it's because I just don't have anything to add.

Blogging about what I want to blog about!
I have struggled since the beginning of this blog on what to actually talk about. In the beginning, I was unpublished. I blogged mainly to learn about writing, to meet other writers, share what little I knew. But that meant my blog was only interesting to a limited group of people. And that's not what I wanted. I tried to mix it up. But I worried...as I always worry...that no one cares, no one wants to read. But I really enjoy blogging.
The last 6 months to a year, my readership seems to have dropped severely. Maybe people are still reading, but they're sure not commenting. I need to check my stats and see how many visitor I still get each day, despite the very few comments.
I wish I knew what people wanted to read about.
So instead of wondering, I'm just going to blog about whatever I feel like!! LOL! I'll write about what interests me, what bugs me, what makes me laugh. I like to connect with people on all kinda of levels. That's what blogging is all about. At least for me it is.

Promo promo promo...I need new ideas!
I blog, do blog tours, blog hops, guest blogging spots, interviews.
I Twitter and Facebook.
I have Goodreads and Amazon author pages.
I did a Goodreads ad.
I do online chats (when I can remember).
I participate in online contests and giveaways.
I've organized a Street Team and sent them all kinds of materials to hand out.
I did a local book fair.
I do local open mic nights.
But so far, none of this has given me the sales figures I desire. I need to do more. I want to do more. I just don't know what. I am out of ideas. But I won't be that media whore who blitzes everyone all day with "BUY ME!" posts. Not my style. And from everything I've read, it's not cool anyway.
What am I missing? Are there some great marketing ideas I have missed?? Remember I am a struggling author...so if it takes money, I probably can't do it.
Help! Please!

Did you know I have another blog?????
Yes...I try to keep up two blogs. Tried it once before....a cooking blog I did with another writer...but that kinda failed. Went well for a while but both of us just got too busy to keep it up. It's kind of a pain to post a recipe and review and all that...takes a lot of time.
I've always had my other blog in the back of my mind...so one day I just decided to do it. Not sure if many of you know, but I am a HUGE Disney World fan. I love the planning process that goes into a trip and all my friend know I am the one to come to with Disney-related questions. And everyone always seems to have the same questions. So I decided to start this blog as a place for them to go...with all of my advice already there and waiting.
It is mainly an informational blog, so daily posts are not completely necessary. But I do try to post once or twice a week to keep it updated.
So if you're a Disney World fan like me, please stop by!! Disney Dreaming

Blog focus???
When I started this blog, it had no real focus. I didn't know much about blogging then. I just did it because it was something I thought I needed to do to help build my platform. It sounded fun...like something I could get into. I wanted to share myself and my journey. But once I started, it really became something I hadn't expected. I found an amazing community of writers and readers. So so supportive!! And I did my best to support them in return. I blogged mainly about writing related things. I couldn't really teach anyone anything, but I did my best to share my experiences on my journey. But everyone seemd to enjoy my posts and appreciate them.
But now I just don't know what to write about. I guess I can keep writing about the same topics. But I still am not a teacher...I don't think I will ever feel like I can come on this blog and teach people. I still have days where I feel like I know absolutely nothing.
My readership has dropped CONSIDERABLY. I am not happy about this at all. Makes me think that I have lost everyone...I am not interesting anymore...no one cares what I have to say. I tried chalking it up to summer...but summer's over. I posted my new cover last week and I only got 4 comments. :( I'm trying to do a Blog Event in a couple weeks to kick start my promotion for the fall. Only two participants beside myself (and I know them in real life! LOL!) I know I haven't been around much posting on other's blogs...this summer really pulled me away from the computer unlike any other summer has. But I promise...I am jumping back in!!!!
I struggle with topics to write about...many of my current followers are also writers, so I know they are interested in informational blogs. But as I said, I can't teach. And I want to attract non-writers too.
So here I sit, wondering what the heck to do!!!
Please please please sign up for my Blog Event on the 19th! Click here!

Warning...This Blog May Contain Explicit Material
Well, I had to do it. I have been debating for a while on adding the adult content warning to my blog. Just to cover my butt. I rarely post anything explicit...but I guess my cover for A Bitch Named Karma is kinda racy...and well...the title is too.
But now I have plans to post something pretty sexy, so that made my decision definite. (Check back on Friday!!)
Do you have an warning on your blog?? Why? Is it a pain to have it on my blog?? Does it deter readers from continuing?

Oops! I screwed up!!!
Yikes!! I knew this was gonna happen at least once on this blog tour!!! I blame Blogger. I had it all set and then they went and screwed it all up by deleted a bunch of posts I had scheduled. I thought I was at Talli Roland's Blog today...but apparently, that's tomorrow! :)

Do you have ads on your blog???
Many times I have thought of adding some ads to my blog page. I mean, who wouldn't love to make money just by typing their daily thoughts???? But after some more thought, I decided I didn't want to do it.
I like that my blog is so pretty and ads would only distract readers. I can't imagine stuff littering the sides.
My blog is my only website now, and it seemed unprofessional to have ads on my author website. I used to have a separate site, but it was lame. It was free space that I get from my ISP and the basic templates were very plain and boring. It cost money to use anything that was fun. I was already blogging every day, or every other day. And after a while, it seemed silly to have the website that just sat there...stagnant.I did update it from time to time, but there really wasn't much to put there. My blog is updated several times a week...so it seemed best to make it my main website. And with the ability to add ages, like a regular website, I could add all the info I needed.
But I still have days where I wonder if it would be a good idea. Those days when our budget is tight and some extra cash would be nice.
So, it there anyone out there who does do the ads??? How has it worked??? Any regrets???

I understand and I wish to continue.
I have often encountered the following message when clicking on blogs:
"The blog that you are about to view may contain content only suitable for adults. In general, Google does not review nor do we endorse the content of this or any blog. For more information about our content policies, please visit the Blogger Terms of Service".
Now I understand that it is Google and the blogger's way of protecting themselves against lawsuits and people being all in a huff because their kids are possibly viewing inappropriate blogs. But what does this really do? Can you see any kid saying "oh, geez, I better click 'I do not wish to continue.'"
No..they'd probably just be even more curious to see what was ahead.
I know not all content on the internet is appropriate for young eyes. I certainly would not want my son or daughter viewing certain things. But I don't think a little warning is gonna stop kids. I know I will find other ways to make sure my kids are only viewing what I deem appropriate.
I just think it's kinda funny!
Don't forget to sign up for my Show Me the Love Blogfest!!

My New Blog!!! Check it out!!!
So, I have decided to start another blog. I know, I know. Sometimes I barely have enough time for this one. And I tried a second blog before and I didn't have time for that one either. Well....I'm gonna try it again!!
I've decided to start a blog for my Disney adventures and tips and anything that crosses my mind about Disney World!! My family simply adores it and we've had some fantastic times there.
And not to brag, but I've become quite the planning aficionado! And I love sharing what I know with others! I've been told I should charge for my services!
So come stop by and check it out!! Disney Dreaming

Ever feel torn??
I do...quite often. Mostly it has to do with my time and how it should be spent.
So yesterday was shopping day. I still went to the gym, but brought clothes and makeup and stuff so I didn't have to go home before running my errands (and you will not see me running errands in gym clothes and no makeup! Not gonna happen!) Hubby was off, so it was nice to have him there with me. We stopped at Toys R Us first, then had some lunch. Then we did both food stores. By the time we got home and put groceries away, I only had abut an hour and a half to be on the computer.
As most of you know, that amount of time can fly by in the blink of an eye. So I have to choose what I do carefully. Of course I checked email first.
But after that...I knew what I should have been doing. I should have been editing my manuscript, preparing it for submission. But I was a little tired. Didn't get much sleep the night before. I needed something that took less energy. I should have read blogs and commented and do all that networking stuff. *sigh* That felt really exhausting too. So I played around on Facebook and some message boards I visit, purely for fun.
And I felt guilty. I wasn't not doing what I should have been doing. So I went and wrote a blog about feeling torn.
How's your day?? Feeling torn at all???

Blogs people like to read??
So I just Googled "What do people like to read about on blogs?"
Not many helpful links came up. The first was a site called "What white people like". Didn't even waste my time clicking on that one. Another came up "100 Blog Topics I Hope You Write". That sounded interesting, so I clicked it. Nothing exciting.
I love blogging and sharing my writing journey...but lately it seems no one is really interested. I've been getting very few comments and Google Analytics shows low numbers, aside from a blogfest last month.
I am desperately trying to find out what people want to read about and comment about!! I want readers to know me...but is my life really all that interesting??? My writing life is probably the most exciting thing I got going!! No one wants to read about my trips to the gym or housework. I don't lead a very glamorous life!!
But my goal this year is to gain new followers and get more conversations going in my comments. I am always so jealous of blogs with 20+ comments! I can count on one hand how many of my posts have gotten that response!! And it's been almost 2 years I've been blogging!!
